Feiglin Warns: Netanyahu Will End Up Like Olmert

Moshe Feiglin, co-founder and president of the Manhigut Yehudit ("Jewish Leadership") faction in the Likud party, had strong words for Prime Minister Netanyahu on Wednesday, saying that he believes the incident in Havat Gilad is a formative event that will ultimately lead to the downfall of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

“There was huge pressure on Netanyahu by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who does not hide his antagonistic attitude towards the Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria, and by left-leaning officials in the Ministry of Justice who wanted to create a precedent of using firearms against the residents,” Feiglin told Arutz Sheva’s Hebrew site.

It is widely believed that Barak is provoking incidents in an attempt to shore up the new Atzmaut faction that he heads after his recent break with Labor, by attracting leftist voters from the Kadima, Labor and Meretz parties.

He added that if Netanyahu does not come to his senses soon, he will destroy his political career.

“It is clear to me that if he (Netanyahu) does not change, and it does not matter what his degree of guilt is in the matter compared to Barak, he is going to end up like Ehud Olmert,” said Feiglin. “Olmert fell after the Amona incident and while his fall was more brutal, the result in Netanyahu’s case may be the same.”

During the interview, Feiglin also warned those who think that the Yisrael Beiteinu party, headed by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, is the right party in which to be a member.

“Yisrael Beteinu is a very difficult problem,” he said. “It is a kind of magnet that draws the right, but today we all understand what it means to be a rightist without believing in G-d. We all remember what happened to the great hero, Ariel Sharon. It is true that Yisrael Beiteinu has some outstanding people, but I am convinced that Lieberman would not hesitate to form a government with the left. He cannot be counted on. Going with Lieberman would mean going from bad to worse.”
