Moshe Feiglin on Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef: Nation of Israel has Lost Great Leader

By Moshe Feiglin

The passing Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef zt"l has left a gaping hole in the Torah world. Beside the fact that Rabbi Yosef was a Torah giant and halachic scholar on a historic scale, he was also a courageous and innovative lea×’er who knew how to connect to a wide cross-section of society, setting a new agenda for his followers.

The revolution brought about by Rabbi Ovadiah during his lifetime reached every city and neighborhood in Israel. It extricated tens of thousands from the cycle of hardship and ignorance and ushered them into a world of tradition, mitzvah observance, Torah study and prayer. It restored the dignity of hundreds of thousands who had felt disenfranchised, affording them a place of honor, relevance and contribution to society.

The Nation of Israel has lost one of the greatest and most important leaders of the last generations.
